Seriously, you can get beads anywhere. I regularly take mine out and move them around and add new ones (I get bored of the look, and beads really help to tighten up loose parts of your dreads). Some of mine are glass beads I had hanging around from old art projects—I assume they originated from some general craft store. One I keep in my hair is from my window blinds (;p now there’s only a string to open and close them). One of my dreads has a good friend’s pants button that they left in my car after driving it one time.
To get them in your hair, you just have to make sure the bead has a big enough hole to fit around the dread. If you’ve just started making them, I’d wait until they tangle up (several months if you don’t use shit like wax) to start decorating them, otherwise the beads can just fuck em up.
